Unit 1: UK Politics and Core Political Ideas – democracy and participation; political parties; electoral systems; voting behaviour and the media; Liberalism (A Level only); Conservatism (A Level only), and Socialism (A Level only).
Unit 2: UK Government and Optional Political Ideas – the constitution; parliament; Prime Minister and executive; relationship between the branches, and Nationalism (*optional political idea, A Level only).
Unit 3: Comparative Politics – Government and Politics of the USA – the US Constitution and federalism; US Congress; US Presidency; US Supreme Court; US democracy and participation, and US Civil rights.
To achieve this full A Level you will be assessed across all 3 units using 3 written examinations. During these examinations you will be expected to demonstrate your knowledge and competency of the materials taught on the syllabus.
Paper 1: UK Politics and Core Political Ideas – this 2 hour written examination carries 33.3% of the total weight of your A Level grade and is comprised of 3 questions.
Paper 2: UK Government and Optional Political Idea – this 2 hour written examination carries 33.3% of the weight of your A Level grade and is comprised of 3 questions.
Paper 3: Comparative Politics – Government and Politics of the USA – this 2 hour written examination carries 33.3% of the weight of your A Level grade and is comprised of 4 questions.
Please Note: you will need to take the standard A Level examinations in order to earn this qualification. For specific dates visit the Edexcel website. You will need to book these examinations yourself, and they will come with a fee separate from the cost of the course.
No prior knowledge or experience is required to enrol onto this course, meaning if you have got a natural interest in politics you can easily register and expand your understanding of this fascinating field.
Upon completion of this qualification you will receive an A Level in Politics issued by Edexcel.
