About This Course

Aimed at learners who support individuals with learning disabilities as part of their job role, this online course in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities is an excellent way to advance your career prospects or gain the opportunity to progress to higher level qualifications within the child or adult care sectors.

With approximately 1.5million people in the UK living with a learning disability, there are many roles within education, public services, social and healthcare which require an understanding of how best to support individuals with learning disabilities.

Reviewing legislation and understanding the signs and symptoms of different learning conditions are crucial elements of this qualification. This course will help you to develop a wide range of skills and specialised knowledge to benefit both your professional and personal life when supporting those with learning disabilities.

The programme contains several different units of assessment, all of which sit within the ‘Regulated Qualification Framework’ (RQF). Credits are achieved for each unit completed (please see unit listing below for more detail).

This qualification has a workplace element where you will demonstrate your practical experience.  To complete this element, you must be in an England based setting, appropriate to supporting individuals with learning disabilities, such as:

  • Adult social care settings
  • Supported living environments
  • Residential care
  • Community-based support services

You must ensure that a member of staff with occupational competence is able to assess any practical elements and sign the witness testimonies to prove you have achieved the work-based learning outcomes of the course.
