Assessment
In order to achieve both qualifications, students are required to attend exams at official exam centres. Exams take place in May and June, and require a booking fee, which is paid directly to the facility at the time of booking. We recommend students book their places as early as possible to avoid disappointment. When you feel ready to book your exam place, we’ll help you find the most convenient centre for you.
GCSE English Language Exams and Practical:
Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing
- 1 hour and 45 minutes written exam
- 50% of GCSE English Language marks
Paper 2: Writer’s Viewpoints and Perspectives
- 1 hour and 45 minutes written exam
- 50% of GCSE English Language marks
Practical: Spoken Language
- Presenting, answering questions and responding to feedback in standard English.
- This assessment is teacher set, and will not change your overall GCSE English Language exam scores.

Paper 1: Non-Calculator
- 1 hour and 30 minutes written exam
- 33.3% of GCSE Mathematics marks
Paper 2: Calculator
- 1 hour and 30 minutes written exam
- 33.3% of GCSE Mathematics marks
