Assessment
In order to achieve a full GCSE Higher Spanish qualification, you need to sit 4 exams. You will need to book a place at an official exam centre. There is a separate fee to book your exams, which will be paid directly to the facility at the time of booking.
We’ll help you to book your exams when you feel ready! Exams take place in May and June.
Paper 1: Listening
- 45 minutes written exam
- 50 marks
- 25% of overall GCSE Spanish marks
- Questions include comprehension and transcribing short sentences
Paper 2: Speaking
- Non-exam assessment (NEA)
- 10–12 minutes + 15 minutes supervised preparation

- Assessment includes role-play, reading aloud, short conversation, and photo card discussion
Paper 3: Reading
- 1 hour written exam
- 50 marks
- 25% of overall GCSE Spanish marks
- Questions include reading comprehension and translation (Spanish to English)
Paper 4: Writing
- 1 hour 15 minutes written exam
- 50 marks
- 25% of overall GCSE Spanish marks
- Questions include responses to visual stimuli and translation (English to Spanish)
Required Knowledge
No formal entry requirements.
Some prior knowledge of Spanish is advised, as the Higher tier includes advanced grammar and vocabulary.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded an AQA GCSE Certificate in Higher Spanish
