Jade’s Journey to Early Years Success

Jade’s Journey to Early Years Success

Jade’s journey from returning to education to becoming a qualified early years practitioner is an inspiring example of determination and growth. With the right support and a passion for childcare, she has continued to build her skills while balancing work, study and family life.

From Home to Nursery

When I spoke with Jade, she was warm and enthusiastic about her work.

“I’ve been working in a nursery for just over a year now, in the two to three group,” she shared.

It was clear that this role was important to her and connected closely with the qualifications she had completed.

Originally, Jade completed a Level 3 childcare qualification with the Association of Learning. She later realised that she needed to complete the full diploma to be fully qualified for the role she wanted.

“I did the Level 3 childcare last year, and then I realised that I needed to do the full diploma,” she explained. “I just finished it about two weeks ago.”

Balancing Act

Jade’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. As a mother of two young children, balancing her studies with family life was no small feat.

“I only work part-time, three days a week, because I have my kids to look after,” she mentioned.

Despite the demands of motherhood, she remained focused on her educational goals.

“It was a bit daunting because I’m 37, and I left school a while ago. Going back to education was a bit nerve-wracking,” she admitted.

However, the flexibility of studying from home allowed her to learn at her own pace.

“I liked that I didn’t have to go to college and sit in a classroom with 16-year-olds,” she said, relieved to have the opportunity to study in a way that suited her lifestyle.

Learning and Growing

Reflecting on her experiences in the nursery, Jade spoke about the various activities she engages in with the children.

“A typical day is very free-flowing. We have outdoor activities, and the children get to choose what they want to do,” she described.

“It’s lovely to just sit with them and join in, rather than constantly thinking about what needs to happen next.”

Her studies directly contributed to her growth in the nursery.

“The knowledge and skills I developed through the course helped me improve and develop into my role,” she noted.

Jade found that understanding the needs of children with different abilities was especially important.

“We have a lot of children in our setting, and it really helps with inclusion and planning different things that would suit them all,” she said.

Her commitment to the children and their needs was reflected in her work environment, which she described as “very supportive.”

This nurturing atmosphere allowed her to apply what she had learned and continue building her confidence in practice.

Embracing Challenges

Jade candidly acknowledged the challenges she faced both in her studies and her work.

“I’m not the most academic, so the assessments were quite challenging for me, especially the Harvard referencing,” she confessed.

However, her determination shone through. “Once I got my head around it, I managed to do it,” she added.

In her role at the nursery, she quickly realised how energetic the children could be.

“I think I’ve become a lot fitter,” she laughed. It’s clear that the physical demands of her job were an adjustment, but she embraced the challenge wholeheartedly.

Looking Ahead

Jade has ambitions for her future in the childcare sector.

“I see myself maybe striving for a SENCO role or room leader position down the line,” she said, her ambition evident.

She acknowledged that she is still finding her feet in her current role, having only been at the nursery for just over a year, but she is excited about the possibilities ahead.

As our conversation drew to a close, I asked Jade if she would recommend the Association of Learning to others considering a career change or looking to upskill.

“Yes, definitely,” she affirmed without hesitation. “Especially for people who want to do a role in this sector.”

Conclusion

Jade’s story is a reminder of what can be achieved with support, determination and a clear goal.

She has continued to develop her career in early years while creating positive experiences for the young children she supports.

Her experience shows how flexible learning can make further study more accessible for those balancing work and family commitments.

Jade’s journey highlights the value of education and support in building confidence within a fulfilling childcare career.

With her sights set on future development and a commitment to continued growth, it is clear that Jade’s journey has only just begun.
